This tenugui features Doraemon the robotic cat, who made his comics debut in 1969 and is one of the most well known and loved manga characters inside and outside Japan. He has come from the future to befriend a young boy.
This is an officially licensed Doraemon product made in Japan. This design features Doraemon sitting on a bench covered with a red cloth looking through traditional koushi wooden latticework at the cherry blossoms.
Such benches are common sites where people gather and are often provided by small shops that sell tea and sweets. I have a similar design on a pink base listed separately, as well as a Doraemon motif furoshiki cloth.
This tenugui is 100% cotton and is about 90cm x 35cm(35.43" x 13.78").
If you've purchased my furoshiki wrapping cloths, please note that tenugui cotton is a plain weave that is lighter that the fabric used for most of my furoshiki, and it is flat, with a plain texture, more similar to the sort of fabric used for bandanas.
Tenugui are also distinct in that unlike furoshiki and western style bandanas, the ends are left unfinished. Because the ends are not sewn, the horizontal threads(the woof) may fray a bit as it's used. If you wash your tenugui or furoshiki, I recommend hand washing. The raw ends of tenugui will gradually tighten after being washed a few times.
